An AI learning app for students

Developed by the Meetup team, School Hack is a freemium AI-powered educational tool for learners from all walks of life, engineered as a digital personal academic assistant and knowledge repository. Catering to a wide variety of student needs, it features a chatbot, plagiarism checker, paraphrase tool, and many more to help you understand a difficult topic or power through an assignment or examination.

It also boasts a virtual community of students, so you can share your knowledge and help each other succeed. Although School Hack offers a monthly subscription, some learners may find the price too steep.

Converse with Andy

School Hack’s ChatGPT 3-powered chatbot — Ask Andy — provides human-like answers to any query, whether it’s about balancing chemical equations, solving a mathematical equation, or managing your study schedule. What’s great about Andy is it asks follow-up questions, allowing for reflection and continuous conversations with the chatbot. However, users may become annoyed by Andy’s habit of going off-topic with its follow-up questions. In this case, you can remind the bot to stay on topic, prompting it to apologize and ask a follow-up question related to your original query.

As Andy is trained for the ethical usage of AI, it will reject any request that it deems inappropriate, such as writing a phishing email or providing tips for cheating in school. The chatbot is also programmed to admit errors and correct misconceptions you have about a certain topic. Still, it’s best to keep an eye out for potential inaccuracies. While Andy is a good conversation partner, it is not a substitute for all the learning materials provided by your teacher or a be-all and end-all tool for passing exams.

To continue chatting with Andy indefinitely, you’ll need tokens — a virtual currency you can obtain from watching advertisements, creating a post, or participating in the app’s ambassador program. Not to worry, though, because a banner will be displayed on the screen, informing the user that they’re either running out of tokens or have consumed all their tokens. You may also consider trying other chatbots in the market, such as the popular ChatGPT by OpenAI, Wordless LLC’s Write This - AI Chatbot, or Zoomtic’s EduBot AI: Learning Chatbot.

Socialize with other students

Much like Facebook, School Hack boasts a newsfeed where learners worldwide can write a text status, upload a photo or learning material, or browse student-created posts. Most users treat the newsfeed as a homework help hub, posting images of worksheets, essay questions, and many more. Though the newsfeed is great for collaborative, borderless learning, students should try to complete an assignment by themselves and not wait until a user comments on their post, lest they risk missing the deadline for submission.

Furthermore, there are group chats dedicated to a plethora of fields of study, from nursing down to business management. However, you won’t see the group chat’s description unless you select the “Join Now” button. If it piques your interest, tap “Send Join Request” and wait for the group chat’s creator to accept your request. Conversely, you can create a group chat and tweak its privacy settings as well as accept invites and join requests.

Supplement your learning

Whether you’re a college or high school student, School Hack is the perfect partner for your learning endeavors. Its chatbot, Ask Andy, can answer any queries you have about school and life — though it likes to go off-topic, grinding people’s gears. The app’s newsfeed fosters a sense of community among students and serves as a one-stop hub for academic support. However, learners should not treat the program as a guaranteed ticket to academic success.
